Over 拢17 million to regenerate Leek Town Centre (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Levelling Up funding has been allocated to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to regenerate Leek Town Centre.

The funding will support three projects that support the Council鈥檚 vision to revive the local economy and make it a better place for residents, communities and businesses.听

Upgraded market halls听

The towns Victorian market halls will be refurbished for business and community use.

听听

The improvements include:听

  • installation of 3 food and beverage lock-up units in the Trestle Market Hall听
  • restoring the Victorian character of shop frontages in the Butter Market Hall听
  • installation of Wi-Fi, CCTV, insulation and heating听
  • a new separate entrance into the markets听
  • replacing 32 tables with lighter weight alternatives听

Nicholson Institute听

Levelling Up funding will also improve the public library, museum and exhibition space at the historic Nicholson Institute. This includes:听

  • refurbishing the lower ground floor into a flexible student welfare facility听
  • renovating the basement to provide operational space for the library听
  • a new venue for events and weddings听
  • increased services in the library听
  • refurbishing the museum听听

Transforming Brough Park Leisure Centre听

Funding will also be used to create new swimming facilities as part of the wider leisure centre transformation.听听

Improvements include:听

  • building a new 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool听听
  • a new learner pool with moveable floor and refurbished changing rooms听听
  • a new health and fitness suite听
  • additional studio space to accommodate group exercises听
  • an indoor cycling studio听
  • additional changing facilities听
