This document is the Post Adoption Statement for the Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) proposals for further onshore oil and gas licensing. The Post Adoption Statement is a requirement of the Strategic Environmental Assessment process to which the proposals has been subject. Strategic Environmental Assessment is an assessment process that supports decision making by identifying, characterising and evaluating the likely significant effects of a plan or programme on the environment and determining how any adverse effects may be mitigated or where any beneficial effects may be enhanced.

Consultation description

The report identifies, describes and evaluates the likely significant effects on the environment of DECC鈥檚 proposals to invite applications for, and issue new licences, and of reasonable alternatives to that plan; and how these effects can be reduced or offset.

This report is a necessary part of a process of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).

DECC will take consultation responses into account and will then issue a 鈥淧ost-adoption statement鈥� which will summarise how the government intends to proceed in relation to further onshore licensing.
