The highlight of the visit was the Ambassador鈥檚 speech at the Wroc艂aw University of Technology at the inauguration of the academic year 2013/14. Ambassador Barnett underscored the pivotal role of innovation and new technologies in the post-crisis EU economy and the new areas they create for an even tighter bilateral co-operation between the UK and Poland. He welcomed close ties between the Wroc艂aw University of Technology and Coventry University as well as wished the future generation of Polish engineers best of luck in their academic and professional endeavours in the years to come.

The visit was part of the Embassy鈥檚 active programme to expand political and commercial contacts with Poland鈥檚 sixteen regions. To that end, the ambassador discussed British trade and investment engagement in Wroc艂aw and the wider Dolno艣l膮skie region with local business circles. The ambassador鈥檚 visit also helped keep up the momentum following the visit of the GREAT Bus to Wroc艂aw in September. The GREAT Bus promoting the GREAT Campaign in Poland and Emerging Europe had attracted significant attention of the citizens and authorities of Wroc艂aw. Its Mayor, Rafa艂 Dutkiewicz, had paid a visit to the bus and spoke about trade and investment opportunities in the region.
