Consular Certificate Discontinuation

The British Embassy and British Consulates and Honorary Consulates across Brazil will no longer issue the "Consular Certificate".

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

From February 1st 2014, the British Embassy in Brasilia and British Consulates and Honorary Consulates across Brazil will no longer issue the 鈥淐onsular Certificate鈥 or 鈥淐茅dula de Inscri莽茫o Consular鈥 to British Nationals.

The 鈥淐onsular Certificate鈥 or 鈥淐茅dula de Inscri莽茫o Consular鈥 is currently required by the Brazilian Federal Police, in place of a UK birth certificate, to support an application for a Brazilian visa.

British Nationals who are asked to present this document to support their visa application should have their UK birth certificate sent to the in London to be legalised and then translated in Brazil by a sworn translator.
