Creative Industries Council holds first meeting

Newly-formed group will give creative industries a voice and help to聽find ways to make the sector grow.

The Creative Industries Council, , has met for the first time today.

The Council, chaired by Business Secretary Vince Cable, consists of and Creative Industries Minister .

鈥淭he UK leads the world in creative talent, representing over five per cent of our economy and a large and rapidly growing share of our exports. We have the largest creative sector in Europe. But we can鈥檛 take that for granted,鈥 said Mr Cable. 鈥淭he will provide a forum for action by the industry and will ensure that it has a strong voice in developing a partnership with the Government.鈥

Mr Vaizey said: 鈥淭he creative industries are a key part of our economy and we must ensure the Government helps this sector grow. I look forward to working closely with the Council to ensure the UK鈥檚 creative industries can continue to thrive.鈥

The Council will form working groups which will look in detail at a select number of issues including skills and training, access to finance and intellectual property.聽It is expected to present聽its findings and recommendations in January 2012.
