Young people's cancer charity proves the overwhelming choice of the workforce.

Danica鈥檚 Dream Fund has been chosen as LLW Repository Ltd鈥檚 Charity of the Year for 2019/20.

The Egremont based charity proved the overwhelming choice of the workforce and John Maxwell, the late Danica鈥檚 Dad, who works at the Repository, is delighted they are to support it with a series of fund-raising initiatives.

鈥淚t鈥檚 brilliant,鈥 said John. 鈥淭his is the third time I had nominated it for Charity of the Year, and it had twice finished second. I know more people on the site now, and more people know about the charity.鈥

Danica passed away in 2010 aged just 15, following three brain tumours. The charity has since raised over 拢200,000 for those aged up to 23 living with cancer, and their families. They may fund a night or a weekend away from hospital, or even make a young person鈥檚 dream come true.

The family of one terminally ill seven year old boy approached a national charity to see if it could fulfil his wish of driving a go-kart.

The charity agreed but due to admin issues it was going to take six weeks to arrange, and the youngster had only two weeks to live. The family then turned to Danica鈥檚 Dream Fund and it had the cash within a couple of days.

Before her death, Danica had asked her parents to later launch the charity to help others, and it grew quickly.

鈥淚 thought, if we got 拢10,000 I would be chuffed to bits, but we got that within a couple of months,鈥 John added.

The workforce raised a record 拢9,339 for last year鈥檚 Charity of the Year, Give Us A Break 2010, which is raising money to fund a short stay centre in West Cumbria for disabled children and their families.
