Foreign Office comments on tragic events at Marikana mine in South Africa
"Our condolences to the friends and family of all those who have died or been affected."
A Foreign Office spokesperson said:
鈥淲e are shocked by the loss of life at the Marikana mine in South Africa and send our condolences to the friends and family of all those who have died or been affected. We welcome the commitment of the South African Government to resolving the situation through dialogue.
鈥淲e further welcome President Zuma鈥檚 announcement of a Commission of Inquiry, as well as National Police Commissioner General Riah Phiyega鈥檚 confirmation that the South African Police Service would co-operate fully with an investigation into these tragic events.鈥�
