Foreign Office Minister visits International Criminal Court
Foreign Office Minister Henry Bellingham said that the ICC's swift action on Libya complemented other international efforts and showed the ICC鈥檚 relevance: "It proved that those who commit crimes against humanity have no impunity."
During his visit to the ICC in the Netherlands the Foreign Office Minister met the President of the International Criminal Court, Judge Sang-Hyun Song, who thanked Mr. Bellingham for the United Kingdom鈥檚 longstanding support for the court鈥檚 activities. Mr Bellingham reiterated the UK鈥檚 unequivocal and continued commitment to the Court鈥檚 future work. He said,
鈥淭he ICC now has its highest ever profile. Its swift action on Libya complemented other international efforts and showed the ICC鈥檚 relevance. It proved that those who commit crimes against humanity have no impunity.鈥�
Mr Bellingham also discussed Counter Piracy, the Horn of Africa, Sudan, and Zimbabwe with government representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Those discussions highlighted the UK and Dutch shared analysis of the complex problems affecting the region and our joint will to find solutions that bring peace, stability and growth. The Minister also introduced the UK鈥檚 Consultation on our Overseas Territories to The Ministry for the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Commenting on his discussion with Dutch colleagues he said,
鈥淭he Netherlands is one of our closest allies. It has been good to see that we share so much thinking on so many issues and that this translates into action in Africa and around our Overseas Territories.鈥�
