Foreign Secretary condemns bombings in Yemen
Foreign Secretary William Hague reiterates UK鈥檚 support for Yemen鈥檚 political transition and its fight against terrorism.
Responding to this morning鈥檚 attacks on Yemen鈥檚 Defence Ministry, the Foreign Secretary William Hague said:
I condemn in the strongest terms the horrific attacks on the Defence Ministry in Sana鈥檃 today that have caused so many deaths, including medical staff and patients in the Ministry鈥檚 hospital. I send my condolences to the families of those killed and injured and offer my support to President Hadi.
The UK is committed to supporting Yemen鈥檚 political transition and to helping its fight against terrorism. Instability in Yemen prevents reforms which are crucial to improve the lives of Yemeni people who are suffering in the face of enormous insecurity and humanitarian crises.
As the UN Security Council reiterated just last month, all those attempting to disrupt Yemen鈥檚 political transition will face serious measures. In a region which has seen huge instability and violence, Yemen鈥檚 progress so far has been commendable and we must not allow this process to fail.
Our Embassy in Sana鈥檃 remains at a high state of vigilance. We have been advising British Nationals to leave Yemen since March 2011 and we continue to advise against all travel to the country.
