Foreign Secretary disappointed at Ukraine decision to put signature of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement on hold
UK remains committed to strengthening the EU-Ukraine relationship.
Commenting on the announcement that Ukraine is putting signature of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement at the Vilnius Summit on hold, the Foreign Secretary said:
This is a missed opportunity. The UK remains committed to Ukraine鈥檚 European future, to a closer relationship with Ukraine, and to signature of the Association Agreement. The Agreement presents the best opportunity for Ukraine to modernise and transform its institutions and economy, and build a more prosperous and stable future for the Ukrainian people. The door remains open and signature is in Ukraine鈥檚 hands.
The EU鈥檚 relationship with the countries of the Eastern Partnership is an important one and is greatly valued by the UK. Association Agreements with countries of the Eastern Partnership are good for the EU, good for the Eastern Partnership, and good for the wider region. I look forward to the initialling of the EU-Georgia and EU-Moldova Association Agreements, including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas, at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on 28/29 November.
