Foreign Secretary welcomes unprecedented Arab League sanctions on Syria
Foreign Secretary William Hague has welcomed the Arab League's leadership in seeking an end to the horrific violence in Syria.

Commenting on the Arab League鈥檚 decision to impose sanctions on Syria, the Foreign Secretary William Hague said:
鈥淲e welcome the Arab League鈥檚 leadership in seeking an end to the horrific violence in Syria. Today鈥檚 unprecedented decision to impose sanctions demonstrates that the regime鈥檚 repeated failure to deliver on its promises will not be ignored and that those who perpetrate these appalling abuses will be held to account. We will continue to support the Arab League鈥檚 efforts to restore peace to Syria.
鈥淭he UN cannot remain silent on the ongoing brutality taking place in Syria. To that end we welcome the commitment by the Arab League to engage with the UN Secretary General at the earliest opportunity to gain the UN鈥檚 support to address the situation in Syria.
鈥淲e will continue to keep the international community鈥檚 focus on Syria until there is an end to the bloodshed.鈥
