The Secretary of State for Scotland聽today welcomed the arrival of HMS Ambush to HM Naval Base Clyde.聽 HMS Ambush is the second of the seven Royal Navy鈥檚 Astute Class submarines and it will enter service with the Royal Navy next year following sea trials.
Michael Moore said:聽 鈥淚 am delighted to welcome HMS Ambush to Faslane and earlier this month I had the privilege of witnessing the base鈥檚 preparations for its arrival by the Royal Navy.
鈥淭his move comes as part of the Maritime Change Programme designed to ensure that, from 2016, HM Naval Base Clyde will become home to all of the Royal Navy鈥檚 submarines.聽 As the UK Submarine Centre of Specialisation, the base will become the UK驴s centre of excellence for submariners, providing a single integrated base port, with infrastructure to provide a state-of-the-art home for their training.聽
鈥淔aslane is currently Scotland鈥檚 largest single site employer, with a combined workforce of over 6,000 people, and this is set to bring further economic benefits to the local area and beyond.聽 Today鈥檚 arrival is a firm signal of our clear commitment to a strong defence footprint in Scotland.鈥�
