Scottish Secretary visits Falkirk to discuss economic development for the area
The Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, met representatives from Falkirk Council鈥檚 Economic Partnership earlier today.
Today鈥檚 meeting follows one in Edinburgh earlier this year where Mr Mundell hosted the leader of the Council to discuss how the UK Government can help their Investment Zone initiative.
Speaking after the visit Mr Mundell said:
I was pleased to meet with representatives from Falkirk Council today to discuss the importance of economic development in the area.
Falkirk has a lot to offer both to those who live and work in the area, and to visitors to attractions such as the Kelpies. We are committed to working with the Scottish Government to ensure the area鈥檚 economic potential is maximised.
The UK Government is committed to creating opportunities, jobs and long-term growth right across Scotland, and so far has committed more than 拢1.35 billion in City and Growth Deals to help achieve this. While the UK Government鈥檚 modern Industrial Strategy aims to boost productivity by backing businesses to create good jobs and increase the earning power of people throughout the UK with investment in skills, industries and infrastructure. We were able to discuss with representatives and employers where we can make connections with our strategy and the local area as they develop future economic proposals.
During his visit Mr Mundell also met with representatives from INEOS and was given a tour of the industrial facility at Grangemouth.

The Grangemouth site is key to Scotland鈥檚 industrial sector and a major employer for the area. The tour today was a good opportunity to talk about where the UK Government can help this vital national asset and a lynchpin of Scotland鈥檚 economy continue to thrive in the years ahead.
