UK Foreign Secretary William Hague Visited Indonesia
UK Foreign Secretary William Hague visited Indonesia and the Philippines 27-31 January 2014. Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Hague said:
I am delighted to be visiting Indonesia, in particular following President Yudhoyono鈥檚 historic State Visit to the UK in 2012. Our two great countries have much in common and I鈥檓 here to focus on our shared values. We鈥檙e working closely together in the UN and G20 on issues such as Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict and I鈥檓 very much looking forward to discussions with Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.
The visit was the latest in an unprecedented round of high-level visits to and from South East Asia over the past two years that have revitalised the British Government鈥檚 relationship with the region.
In Indonesia, the powerhouse economy of South East Asia, the Foreign Secretary met with his counterpart Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa to review UK-Indonesian cooperation and discuss international issues of joint interest. He attended events focused on improving transparency in government and promoting the UK鈥檚 Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.

This is the first visit of a Foreign Secretary to Indonesia since 2005. President Yudhoyono visited the UK as a guest of HM The Queen in November 2012, the first State Visit from Indonesia since 1982. Prime Minister David Cameron led a large business delegation to Indonesia in April 2012.
