UK wins 2017 World Athletics Championship bid
London to host competition
The (IAAF) has awarded London the right to host the World Athletics Championships in 2017.
Sports Minister , who was in Monaco for the decision as part of the bid team, said: 鈥淚 am absolutely delighted that London has won the right to host the World Athletics Championships in 2017. Our bid showed how passionate the UK is about athletics and this will leave a fantastic legacy from , with the Championships taking place in the Olympic Stadium.鈥�
London beat a bid from Doha to win the Championship, which will be held in the capital in the summer of 2017.
Mr Robertson added: 鈥淭he World Athletics Championships adds to the tally of major international sporting events that the UK is hosting over the next few years. We are now firmly on the map as a destination for putting on world-class sporting events.鈥�
