UK鈥檚 Minister for International Security Strategy, Dr Andrew Murrison MP was in Ghana for a short defence bilateral visit to build on the already strong UK-Ghana relationship. As part of his visit, Dr Murrison met with the Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Advisor and had discussions with both the Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers.

At the end of his visit Dr Murrison said, 鈥淚 was delighted to have met with a range of leaders to understand Ghana鈥檚 defence agenda and challenges, and explore how the UK can best help. I was grateful to discuss the developments of Ghana鈥檚 UN MINUSMA deployment in Mali and was happy that the UK was able to help by flying Ghana鈥檚 engineer company with vehicles and equipments to Bamako in February.鈥�

During Dr Murrison鈥檚 meeting with Ghana鈥檚 Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Matthew Quashie, concerns over the heightened levels of Maritime Crime in the Gulf of Guinea was discussed. They both agreed that it was a shared regional challenge but that Ghana could play a significant role in a regional response. Dr. Murrison assured Ghana of the UK鈥檚 commitment to continuing its training relationship with Ghana and UK鈥檚 readiness to explore ways on how this relationship can develop further.
