Wales Office Minister, Stephen Crabb MP will today meet Chief Constable Jackie Roberts and see first hand how Dyfed Powys Police undertake major specialist operations like the search for April Jones.

On his visit Mr Crabb will visit the working dog section at the聽Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters in聽Carmarthen, to understand how this specialist team underpins聽important investigative police work.聽

During the visit he will also go to the firearms collaboration project at Cross Hands, to see how聽Dyfed Powys, Gwent and South Wales Police聽are bringing their expert firearms teams together to increase capability and deliver a more effective and streamlined service to the public.

Mr Crabb will then travel to聽Pembrey聽and visit the Powys Police helicopter, to learn how this facility supports police search and rescue operations.

Wales Office Minister, Stephen Crabb said:

My visit to Dyfed Powys has been extremely interesting聽and I聽admire the聽dedication聽of聽the officers who undertake very complex and聽extremely dangerous operations daily in the line of duty.

Investigations can regularly require searches across large areas in very bad conditions, with extremely challenging terrains like woodlands, mountains and streams to consider.聽

As important decisions are being聽considered聽about the future of air support to Welsh forces, I聽have been keen to see聽first hand how these resources are used in operations.
