Department for Education: non-executive board members

Stuart McMinnies and Sir Peter Bazalgette have been reappointed as non-executive board members for the Department for Education from 1 June 2025 for a period of 3 years.

Remuneration is £15,000 per annum for an estimated time commitment of 24 days per year.

Office for Students: interim chair

Sir David Behan’s appointment by exception as interim Chair of the Office for Students board has been extended from 25 May to 6 July 2025.

Remuneration is £29,500 per annum on the basis that Sir David will devote one day a week to this role.

Social Work England: non-executive directors

Cheryl Hobson, Amrat Khorana and Chris Nicholson have been appointed to serve on the Social Work England board.ÌýThey will serve from 16 June 2025 for a period of 4 years.ÌýCheryl has been appointed as the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee Chair.

Remuneration is £350 per day for an estimated time commitment of 25 days a year, with an additional 5 days for the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee Chair role.

Ofsted: Chair

Dame Christine Gilbert has been appointed to serve as Chair of the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s ÌìÃÀÓ°Ôº and Skills (Ofsted). Her appointment will begin on 1 September 2025 and will be for a period of 3 years. Remuneration is £55,000 per annum for a time commitment of 2 days a week.

Neil Swift has been appointed by exception to serve on the Office for Students (OfS) board. He will serve from 1 May 2025 for a period of 6 months. This appointment has been made to allow the OfS to remain lawfully constituted, as per the requirements in the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 schedule 1 (2)1, whilst a full public appointments process is undertaken.Ìý

Neil Swift will bring extensive public sector governance experience to the board and his background in regulation, accounting and finance will be a welcome addition.Ìý

Remuneration is £9,180 per annum for an estimated time commitment of 20 days per annum.Ìý
