The phased maths bursary pilot tested a new package of incentive payments. During the pilot, the value of the bursary paid to maths initial teacher trainees was reduced from 拢25,000 to 拢20,000. At the same time, two early career payments worth at least 拢5,000, and paid in the third and fifth years of teaching, were also introduced.
This evaluation used a mixed methods approach to assess:
- the impact of the phased maths bursaries pilot on maths teacher supply
- how the phased maths bursaries pilot was delivered and perceived
