DESNZ commissioned Carbon Limiting Technologies to explore:

  • how thermal energy storage currently features in district heat networks in the UK and internationally
  • why it is used in the UK currently and how will it be used in the future
  • the barriers and enablers to greater uptake of thermal energy storage

The research consisted of:

  • a rapid evidence review
  • interviews with expert stakeholders in the UK and internationally

This report presents the key findings from the research, including evidence gaps identified.
