To ensure the consistent application of 853/2004 in regards of frogs鈥� legs and snails and avoid illegal entry at BCP鈥檚. We need a consistent approach at the ports in the application of the import controls to help avoid any confusion for importers.聽

We have been made aware of inconsistencies with the controls undertaken at some BCP鈥檚, which have led to unauthorised products being admitted inland. Annex I of assimilated Regulation 853/2004 defines frog鈥檚 legs and snails as:聽

鈥楩rogs鈥� legs鈥� of the species RNA (family Ranidae).聽

鈥楽nails鈥� of the species Helix pomatiaLinn茅, Helix aspersaMuller, Helix lucorum and species of the family Achatinidae.聽
Actions for OVSs聽
If snails or frogs鈥� legs are not from the family or species above, they would fall outside of the scope of the legislation and are therefore not permitted.聽
