Research Paper: Is support for democracy eroding in the UK? 

Following the publication of surveys earlier in the year suggesting that younger people are more likely to support strong leaders and are frustrated with democracy, the Committee on Standards in Public Life commissioned José Pedro Lopes, University of Manchester, to undertake some research.

José Pedro Lopes’ paper asks two central questions: (1) how widespread is support for a strong leader who is able to circumvent parliamentary procedures and electoral processes in the United Kingdom; and (2) who is more likely to endorse such a model of governance.
