Skills Bootcamps funding allocations: 2025 to 2026

Updated 9 June 2025

Applies to England

Skills Bootcamps were introduced in 2020 to support adults to upskill and retrain in priority sectors with skills shortages such as construction, digital and heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driving.

They are employer co-designed, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, with an offer of a job interview for eligible participants on completion of the course.

Skills Bootcamps have previously been funded through local grants or contracts managed by the Department for Education. From the 2025 to 2026 financial year,聽DfE聽will directly fund mayoral strategic authorities and other local areas.

The following caveats apply:

  1. This does not include funds transferred to West Midlands and Greater Manchester Combined Authorities as part of their integrated settlement for the 2025 to 2026 financial year.
  2. The total grant allocated represents the maximum amount allocated to each area. DfE does not expect areas to spend their full allocation.
  3. Areas typically spend about 50% to 60% of their allocation due to normal attrition and the payment milestone approach.
  4. Individual allocations are based on demand indicated through historic delivery and proposals submitted by areas.
