Low-emission vehicles eligible for a plug-in grant
Cars
Some types of low-emission and zero-emission cars are eligible for a grant from the government, so you can buy them more cheaply.
You do not apply for the grant. The seller includes it as a discount in the purchase price.
If you work for a vehicle dealership or manufacturer, you can apply for a grant using the online portal.
To be eligible for a grant, the vehicle must:
- be an M1 passenger vehicle
- produce 0gCO2/km at the tailpipe
- have a minimum battery range of 100 miles (160km)
- have a 3-year or 60,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
- be powered by a battery with an 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
- meet minimum sustainability criteria
There are 2 possible discounts you can get depending on which band the car is in.
Band 1 cars
The maximum discount available for cars assessed as Band 1 is 拢3,750.
There are no cars eligible for a Band 1 discount currently.
Band 2 cars
The maximum discount available for cars assessed as Band 2 is 拢1,500.
