Showcase 2: Baits and lures help farmers get the upper hand on fruit flies.

Abstract

This series of two-page briefs highlights some of the new technologies and processes available, in order to inspire practitioners and policy-makers to put them to use. This one outlines how cheap home-made fruit fly traps, concoctions of banana and raw sugar, and home-made or locally manufactured lures (blocks of wood soaked in a solution that attracts and kills male flies) help farmers in India and Pakistan combat fruit flies.
